Kingston man charged after multiple assaults

Kingston Police have arrested and charged a Kingston man allegedly responsible for multiple sexual assaults. According to Kingston police, they first learned of the suspect in early July when a woman came forward to file a complaint about a man who she claimed was an Uber driver assaulting her in a vehicle downtown of Kingston.

In that incident, which took place on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, between 2:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., the 24-year-old victim was walking alone in the area of ​​Division Street and Colborne Street in downtown Kingston when was approached by a white crossover SUV. The suspect, who was the driver, offered her a ride, claiming to be an Uber driver. According to police, the victim accepted the ride as the vehicle appeared to be equipped similarly to other ride-sharing style vehicles.

According to Kingston Police Media Relations Officer Cam Mack, the following incident occurred on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at approximately 2:20 a.m. when a woman was walking home and another once a person pulled up near her, asking if she wanted a ride and claiming to be an Uber driver. The woman got in and, according to police, during the short ride the driver assaulted her. He was able to jump out of the vehicle when the driver stopped at a stop sign.

The Criminal Investigations Unit started an investigation and verified the matching of descriptions between the two incidents. By searching for video, they were able to obtain surveillance footage of the areas involved. Along with other public tips, police were able to gather more information about the vehicle, including the make and model, Mack told the Kingstonist in an interview.

Police were able to obtain a warrant for GPS information based on some of the known whereabouts of the suspect vehicle, which led to the arrest of a Kingston resident.

The suspect, Hassan Al Madani, 50, was arrested on Thursday, July 28, 2022 and later charged with sexual assault, harassment by threatening behavior to another person, and harassment by surveillance and stalking.

Mack credited the astute work of investigators, as well as the assistance of the public who provided photos and surveillance tips, for the successful arrest of the individual.
