Protests have been held across Albania following the death of a seven-year-old British girl who was killed by a speedboat driven by a senior police officer.
Jonada Avdia was swimming in the sea with her father in Potam, in the south of the country, when she was hit when the officer allegedly made “dangerous maneuvers”.
Edi Rama, Albania’s prime minister, is facing calls to resign amid growing public anger over Jonada’s death. It is the third incident involving speedboats on Albanian beaches this summer.
Police Commissioner Arjan Tase, who was driving the boat, has been charged with “manslaughter” which carries a maximum sentence of five years.
Jonada, from Barking, east London, was on holiday with her father, Bledar, and her mother.
