Police are found dead in the Sowerby Bridge canal

Dale Mawson, 48, of Sowerby Bridge, was found dead in the water on Wharf Street Tuesday morning.

Police consider his death “inexplicable.”

As reported by the Courier earlier this week, they were called at 9.21am on Tuesday morning to report a safety concern and were attended to by paramedics and firefighters.

Emergency services arrived at the scene on Tuesday

Detective Chief Inspector Sharron Kaye of the West Yorkshire Police Homicide and Major Investigation Team said: “We are in the early stages of our investigation, but at this time we are dealing with the dead as inexplicable.

“As part of our ongoing inquiries, we are ready to speak with anyone who has information that may help us to establish the circumstances of what happened.

“In particular, anyone who has been to the Sowerby Bridge Canal Wharf area between 1 and 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7.”
