2 rescued after falling into tank full of chocolate at M&M Mars factory in Pennsylvania

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pennsylvania – Two people were rescued Thursday after falling into a chocolate-filled tank at the Mars M&M factory in Pennsylvania.

Both patients were taken to hospital, Lancaster County 911 Dispatch Deputy Supervisor Nick Schoenberger told CNN.

“One patient was transported by land and one person was transported by helicopter,” Schoenberger said.

The extent of his injuries is unknown.

“Firefighters have eliminated removing them directly from a tank,” Brad Wolfe, a communications supervisor on Lancaster County’s 911 dispatch, told CNN on Thursday. “They have to make a hole next to the tank to get them out,” he said.

Wolfe said it’s unclear how people fell into the chocolate tank.

A Mars Wrigley spokesman told CNN: “We are actively managing the situation and our main goal is to support the emergency services on the site.”
