It looks like we’ve learned more recently about the upcoming 60th anniversary celebrations of Doctor Who next year than about the upcoming departure of current Doctor Jodie Whittaker in a few months. And yet, the more we learn about the 60’s, the weirder it becomes.
The latest news from the BBC is that Neil Patrick Harris has joined the next special in an important and undisclosed role. An image of Harris’s character was posted, but no further details were given about his role:

There is definitely a kind of inventor / inventor atmosphere, but beyond that, who can say? It’s not incoming showrunner Russell T. Davies, that’s for sure. “But who, why, what are you playing,” Davies said theatrically in a new BBC statement. “You just have to wait. But I promise you the things we’re rolling now are out of scale. Doctor, watch out!”
Harris joins the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate in the 60th anniversary special, reclaiming their roles as the 10th Doctor (or at least some version of the Doctor) and Donna Noble, respectively. Harris joins his other new star for whom, Yasmin Finney of Heartstopper, confirmed to play an equally mysterious character … named Rose. Maybe that Rose, maybe another Rose, maybe connected, but once again: who knows?
The special will air on or around the presumably 60th anniversary of Doctor Who on November 23, 2023. Meanwhile, Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor will return with his swan song in a still untitled showdown with the master of Sacha Dhawan at the end of the year. .
