Evacuated the school and sent a police helicopter after a misleading call

A school was evacuated after a call was made to police.

Police on the Mersey side confirmed that Gateacre Community Comprehensive School received a worrying phone call today, Wednesday, June 15th. As a result, staff members evacuated students from the main building at around 10:50 a.m.

Emergency services, including a police helicopter, rushed to the scene on Hedgefield Road. Officers have since said the large police presence was a precaution and no suspicious packages or devices have been found.

A spokesman for the force said officers would remain in the area for a while, to reassure the community. Investigations into the incident to find out who is responsible for the fraudulent call are ongoing. Chief Inspector Jim Wilde said: “We take all misleading calls very seriously and will investigate the incident thoroughly to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

Gareth Jones, head of Gateacre School, said: “Students have been temporarily evacuated this morning after a telephone threat was received. Merseyside police were called and after a search the school has now declared safe “.
