Neither Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson nor Leicester City midfielder James Maddison have been included in the English national team for next month’s League of Nations games.

Gareth Southgate says Jordan Henderson has not been called up to the English national team because he does not need to know more about him.
The 31-year-old has played 56 games in all competitions so far this season and is scheduled to start in the Champions League final this weekend. Liverpool will face Real Madrid in Paris, two days before the English team meet at St George’s Park before four games in June.
England will face Hungary twice, Germany and Italy for ten days in their League of Nations group. Southgate has decided to take on a 27-man team for these games, but Henderson has not been included despite being on all Three Lions pitches since October 2020.

Explaining his exclusion, Southgate said: “I don’t need to know more about him and he’s played a lot of football this season. [Alexander-Arnold] in the same way, the first part of the matches will probably be with us and then that’s enough “.
He added: “I was very aware of the Champions League boys: they have had an exceptional season and could not have been involved with more games.
