Severe weather warning for NSW before the weekend rain

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning on the east coast of the state ahead of a flood that is expected to bring hundreds of millimeters of rain over the next four days.

Sydney, Illawarra and Central Tablelands should be prepared for heavy rains and an increased risk of sudden flooding from Saturday, as temperatures range between 11 and 19 degrees.

The office forecast a dangerous weekend of wind and surf conditions on Friday, warning those on school holidays to adjust their plans accordingly.

“Rain is really starting to build up tomorrow over Sydney and Ilwarwarra, and then it continues in these areas for a few days,” meteorologist Jane Golding said on Friday.

Illawarra and Sydney regions should expect up to 90 millimeters of rain on Sunday, with strong winds of 35km / h to hit the city.

There is a low to high flood warning in Wollombi Brook and the Lower Hunter, Upper and Lower Nepean, Hawkesbury and Colo rivers, while residents of the central coast could experience mild to moderate flooding.

“Our dams are full [and] the lands are saturated. There will be, if necessary, evacuation centers that we need, ”said NSW SES Commissioner Carlene York.

“We want to make sure the community is prepared for what may come … It’s important to prepare for these events and avoid complacency,” he said.
