A 14-year-old girl has been charged after threatening a Hamilton school.
On Wednesday, police said they were investigating several threats against schools in the area. They gave few details about the threats, but letters to Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board parents said at least one threat was “related to a shooting” and in another incident a shotgun was confiscated.
“A student brought a shotgun to our school, which is strictly forbidden,” the letter said.
“The item was not used. The students were not in danger. The staff addressed the situation immediately and followed school safety protocols. Police attended our school to support.”
On Thursday, police said additional threats had been made to other schools.
“The threats are similar and involve written messages inside the school buildings,” officials said.
Police say a teenage girl has been charged with felony criminal mischief following threats in St. Louis. Jean de Brebeuf, a Catholic high school near Rymal Road and Upper Sherman Avenue.
“Police are taking incidents like this very seriously and will continue to work closely with school boards to help identify those responsible and file appropriate criminal charges when a suspect is identified,” officials said in a press release issued on Thursday.
