A 14-year-old boy has been charged after fireworks exploded on a GO train in Toronto on Thursday night, according to police.
Around 9:30 p.m., traffic agency Metrolinx says it received a report “that a group of young people fired fireworks from the floor of a taxi.”
Toronto police say GO Transit special agents were at the scene and arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy at Rouge Hill station.
After further investigation, police said the 16-year-old was released and the 14-year-old was charged with a misdemeanor for less than $ 5,000.
The identity of the minor cannot be revealed in accordance with the Juvenile Criminal Justice Act.
Metrolinx says this is the second incident last week with people “illegally and dangerously” lighting fireworks.
The other incident was earlier this week when fireworks were fired directly at station staff.
No physical injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
“Fortunately, neither incident caused serious injuries. However, lighting fireworks in the direction of people or trains is incredibly dangerous and could cause serious loads, ”Aikins said.
