A 15-year-old boy who died after being stabbed in Miles Platting has been named by Greater Manchester police as Jakub Szymanski.
A 44-year-old man was arrested Friday night in Kent on suspicion of murder after the teenager was stabbed and his mother injured in a Manchester home, police confirmed.
Her mother, locally known as Katarzyna Bastek, was also treated for stab wounds on the Bednal Drive property. Bastek, about 40 years old, was taken to hospital and remains in stable condition.
Jakub, known to his family as Kuba, was reportedly attacked while trying to protect his mother.
A family statement released by police said: “Jakub was affectionately known as Kuba for his family and Jakub for his friends. He was always a popular boy, making friends wherever he went because of his kind and talkative nature.

“He always said what he thought, he was naughty, funny and a cheeky boy. He loved his Xbox and football, supporting Manchester City.
“He was like any other teenager and was helpful to a lot of people, even the ones I just met. For our family, he’s our hero.”
Police said the detainee, from Manchester, was believed to be known to the victims. Officers were called by colleagues from the Northwest Ambulance Service around 9:30 p.m. Thursday after the domestic incident at Miles Platting.
The 15-year-old was treated at the scene for stab wounds before being taken to hospital where he died about an hour later, the force said.
