A 15-year-old man arrested in a violent car theft in Mississauga

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a violent car theft in Mississauga over the weekend.

It happened near Derry Road and Hurontario Street around 3 a.m. Saturday.

Police say the victim was sitting in his vehicle when several suspects approached him and began hitting him outside.

One of the suspects then demanded that the victim leave the vehicle, according to police.

The victim complied and once he was out of the vehicle, according to police, he was punched in the head by one of the suspects, with minor injuries.

The suspects then boarded the victim’s vehicle and fled the area.

Police say the 15-year-old suspect was later located and arrested in Toronto. The stolen vehicle was also recovered at that time.

The teenager has been charged with theft and possession of property obtained for crime and has been released on a promise to appear in court. Cannot be appointed under the terms of the Juvenile Criminal Justice Act.

The other suspects, meanwhile, remain pending.

It is only the latest arrest in connection with an eruption of car thefts that have caused shock waves through the GTA.

Earlier Tuesday, Toronto police also announced the arrest of a 41-year-old man in connection with two violent car thefts that were committed within hours. m

“These violent crimes are traumatic for the victims, their families and are unacceptable in our community. Peel regional police are stepping up resources to fight this intolerable crime, “Peel regional police deputy chief Nick Milinovich said in a press release.
