ORANGE COUNTY, Florida – A 2-year-old boy shot and killed his father last month at an Orange County home, according to the sheriff.

Sheriff John Mina said Monday that deputies responded to the Tobie Court home on May 26 and found that 26-year-old Reggie Mabry was suffering from gunshot wounds.

There were three children in the house at the time of the shooting: a 5-year-old boy, a 2-year-old boy and a 6-month-old boy, according to an arrest report. Mina said, based on the evidence, it was initially thought to be a suicide, but the 2-year-old’s older brother told authorities the boy shot his father.

The parents left the gun in the room in a bag where the children were, Mina said. He said Ayala was in the room at the time of the shooting.

According to an arrest warrant, Mabry was in a room playing a video game on the computer when the gun was fired.

Ayala was arrested and faces charges of manslaughter, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, and violation of parole.

He appeared in court for his first appearance on Monday, where a judge denied him bail.
