A 36-year-old man from Brampton has been charged after a man died in a seven-vehicle crash on Highway 400 last summer.
The collision occurred on June 24, 2021, shortly before 7 a.m. in North York, just south of Finch Avenue West.
According to Ontario provincial police, the driver of a loaded transport truck was involved in a chain reaction accident as several motorists braked or stopped their vehicle on the highway.
The overcrowding caused one of those vehicles to catch fire and be engulfed in flames.
A 30-year-old man from Richmond Hill died at the scene, while several others suffered minor injuries.
Highway 400 was closed for nearly 14 hours while police investigated and crews cleaned up the wreckage.
There was also a secondary collision on Rutherford Road that morning when drivers turned the scene of the crash and went the wrong way out of the motorway.
