A Briton has been found dead in a four-star hotel in Florence while his partner was seriously injured.
According to Italian media, the 40-year-old man was discovered at the Hotel Continentale on Saturday morning after staff alerted police.
He is believed to have arrived in the Italian city on Friday night with the 43-year-old woman believed to be his partner.
Local police and forensic equipment were seen at the luxury hotel, which is a short walk from Florence’s famous Florence Cathedral.
The local newspaper La Nazione reports that screams were heard from his room, prompting staff to sound the alarm.
The woman is being treated at the city’s Careggi Hospital.
A spokesman for the Office of Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development said: “We are in contact with Italian police after the death of a British man in Florence.”
