Another flock of poultry on Vancouver Island has a confirmed case of bird flu.
The Nanaimo Regional District on Thursday confirmed the news that a small herd in the backyard tested positive for the flu.
The farm was already quarantined in late April by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which suspected the flu on the farm.
A case of bird flu was confirmed in early May in a herd in the Comox Valley.
The province says bird owners should report serious illnesses such as bird flu.
They say they can look for high mortality rates and sudden death, along with a decrease in egg production, a decrease in food consumption and respiratory signs.
A full list of bird flu symptoms can be found in the district’s announcement.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Food has restricted the mixing of birds throughout the province, such as poultry exchanges, auctions, flea markets, bird shows, fairs, public exhibitions or competitions.
