A Central Saanich student assaulted at school by a group of masked attackers

Central Saanich police are searching for a possible suspicious vehicle after a student was assaulted by a group of masked individuals at Stelly High School on Friday.

The student was approached by a small group, wearing ski masks, in the school car park around 11.20am and was then assaulted, according to authorities.

The victim was hit with a mallet and a knife was also present at the scene, according to Saanich Central Police Sergeant. Paul Brailey.

According to police, the attackers left the school grounds and the student was taken to hospital for minor injuries, including facial injuries that required stitches.

The student is now at home with his parents and will be fine, although he is likely to be shaken, said District Superintendent Dave Eberwein.

“It’s disturbing for everyone and it would be scary for students, and I’m sure some families are worried,” he told CHEK News. “But I can assure you that our process and protocols worked as they should.”

The incident was immediately reported to police, who are now investigating and trying to identify the group. Eberwein said they may have been students from other schools or community members, but are not believed to be students of Stelly.

Saanich Central Police issued a tweet on Saturday asking that all witnesses to the assault or those who may have a video of the camera be presented. They added that the suspects are believed to be related to a previous model black BMW sedan with shiny rims.

“We believe the vehicle was probably parked along Stelly’s between the Saanich Fairgrounds and Wallace Drive,” Brailey said.

Police also ask anyone who has seen anything about the attack on social media to protest, adding that they do not believe that the general public is at risk and that it is “probably an isolated incident between a group of individuals “.

Meanwhile, the school says there is additional support for students or Stelly staff who may be affected by the incident and want to talk to someone about it.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to contact Saanich Central Police at 250-652-4441 or submit evidence on their website.
