A challenge for the new councilors. Will they keep the turn signals on?

Eurobodalla Council is currently carrying out major works to completely replace the staircase enclosure for public access to the Coila beach area in recognition that this beach is becoming more and more popular every holiday season .

John Tilbrook, secretary of the Tuross Head Advancement Association, speculates that the improvements are “possibly due to the condition of the main beach at Tuross Head due to the condition of the beach due to the timber debris estuaries of the Tuross estuary following bushfires and several floods over the past three years.” John says “Thankfully the Council will be clearing debris from the main beach again this week from 16th August to 21st August 22nd August and the woodpiles created will be burnt on site by our local volunteers from the RFS Brigade”.

John reports that the old toilet block at Coila will also be replaced in FY23/24 and says the upcoming amenity block will be similar in design to the new amenity and amenity block at the Main Beach/Caravan car park Park. The news that the replacement is little more than a slight improvement on the Ruso-Bloc architecture that characterizes the county’s toilet blocks is rather disappointing, providing yet again proof that the Council is unable to think outside the box. The minimalist aesthetic of toilet blocks is not in itself an expression of vision, but rather a reaction to the absence of vision. A long-standing suggestion to add value to the facility and location has been to put a pop-up rooftop cafe that would be connected to the adjacent bike path by a flying bridge that would make the facility accessible to all capacities. The City could then lease the cafe, thereby adding value to community owned assets and providing an additional tourism focal point that could serve as an informal information center for the region. With ample parking and pedestrian access, the cafe would be a significant improvement, at minimal cost, transforming a boring mess into something that really contributes to the township and region. But will the councilors keep the pairs on and accept the standard silliness that would keep us mediocre? So far there have only been a few that suggest such a cafe, although it is mainly glass and has a lightness to it, it blocks the view. But the Council’s standard response of “There are no viewing guarantees when you buy your property” may negate any outcry.
