A child found dead in River Taff in Cardiff

Police have confirmed the death of a 13-year-old boy found on Cardiff’s Taff River.

Detective Inspector Abi Biddle said: “At 4:45 pm today (Tuesday, June 21), a report was received of children on the River Taff, near Forest Farm Road, Whitchurch, Cardiff and a child was Police, firefighters, ambulances, coastguards and police helicopters have carried out an extensive search.

“The missing 13-year-old boy was located in the river at around 5.45pm and, despite the efforts of the emergency services, could not be resuscitated. The boy’s family has been informed and is currently being ‘ HM The coroner has been informed and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated. “

Firefighters, police and paramedics attended this afternoon in the Whitchurch and Llandaff North areas. There were reports on social media of a strong presence of emergency services on Ty-Mawr Road and Heol Don. A National Police Air Service helicopter from St Athan searched the area. A witness said the river road was closed to Llandaff North.

A local wrote on social media shortly after 5pm that he had seen 25 emergency vehicles parked next to the water wheel in Whitchurch. Our photographer reported shortly after 8pm that Whitchurch was free from emergency services. At the time, the BBC reported that a person had been taken to Wales University Hospital after the search.
