A 54-year-old man has died after an early Sunday shooting at a restaurant on Eglinton Ave. W., west of Oakwood Ave.

“We got the call at 3:47 a.m. to report a shooting,” Toronto Police Const said. said Edward Parks. “Officers arrived at the scene and located an unresponsive man who had suffered an obvious gunshot wound.

“That man was taken to hospital and succumbed to his injuries.”

The man has been identified as Michael Barnes of Toronto.

Police have not released any information about suspects or other people inside the restaurant for a “big meeting” at the time of the shooting.

“We’re begging the public, if they have information, command camera video, if there was one, to call us,” Parks said.

On Sunday morning, police raided a wide sidewalk perimeter around the Caribbean Love Restaurant and Bar on Eglinton Ave.

An officer watched outside on an already inaccessible sidewalk due to construction underway on the west extension of Eglinton Crosstown.

People living across the street said they heard nothing at the time of the shooting and only noticed all the police activity in the morning.

“I was surprised because a friend of mine said, ‘There’s a shooting in front of your house.’ I said, ‘What?'”

Another man watching the scene from across the street said he woke up at 6 a.m. and noticed the police presence.

“I thought everything on the side of the street was closed there,” said Mamadou, who thought long-term construction had closed most businesses on this stretch of Eglinton.

“I don’t know what to think,” he said of the murder.

According to police, there were 167 shootings in the city on May 30.

So far this year, there have been 26 homicides.
