A “deeply loved” member of the Whistler Search and Rescue Society has been found dead after an extensive search and rescue effort.
Toby Salin “returned home to rest in the arms of those who cared for him so much” around 4 p.m., Whistler Search and Rescue President Brad Sills said in a statement Sunday.
“Toby was a deeply loved member of the Whistler SAR family and the wider community to whom he devoted his time so diligently for over eight years,” Sills wrote.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues. He will miss you very much.”

Police, canine units, air services, search teams and volunteers spent Friday and Saturday searching for Salin, who was last seen on June 16 around 9am.

The Salin truck was later found on West Lillooet Lake Road around the In-SHUCK-ch Forest Service Highway south of Pemberton. Teams searched the coast and river obstacles on the lower Lillooet River on Saturday, but found no trace of it.

Sills had previously said that Salin’s disappearance “was not out of his character,” as he was probably “facing his next great adventure in the mountains he loves so much.”
Salin has been described as an avid outdoor enthusiast with a “plethora of skills”, including mountain biking, skiing and snowmobiling.
Global News has contacted Pemberton’s RCMP for comment, but has not received a response at the time of publication.
