Garmin has added a new chest strap to its line: a supercharged version of its HRM-Pro.
The HRM-Pro Plus offers smarter inner career tracking features as the company builds on its chest strap platform.
The main change is for indoor running workouts. Those who record track or treadmill activities where GPS is not available will now be able to track pace and distance using the HRM-Pro Plus.
Although estimates have been made from the wrist in the past, this means that those who train indoors don’t have to pay for a sturdy GPS watch to get decent tracking.
And it’s also good news for users of the existing HRM-Pro. These features have already been implemented through an update: to align the oldest chest strap with the new one.
Elsewhere, the features are all the same.
The HRM-Pro Plus still uses ANT + and Bluetooth, and will connect to compatible gym equipment, which means you can transmit heart rate data. You can also connect the HRM-Pro Plus to running applications, so keep track of your progress.
The HRM-Pro has also become a key partner in the Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 955 sports watches and will allow you to run power data. And that continues with the Pro Plus.
It continues the work of the HRM-Pro as an operating dynamics sensor and will provide data such as ground contact time and vertical oscillation on Garmin sports watches.
And for swimmers, it will track your heart rate in the water and sync it with swimming sessions recorded on compatible Garmin watches.
Cyclists are also catered for and will connect to the latest Garmin Edge cycling computers.
The only real difference is that Garmin has upgraded the battery hatch to the new HRM-Pro
The HRM-Pro Plus available is now priced at $ 129 / £ 119 as the old HRM-Pro. As we mentioned, the OTA update for the older chest strap means that they both offer the same features.
