A young girl has been safely reunited with her parents after a close call with a TTC train at Warden subway station overnight.
Around 1:30 a.m., Toronto police received a call that a four-year-old girl was missing from her home.
Police said the boy had left home earlier in a previous incident and the parents added extra locks to his door, but the boy was able to open the locks.
The boy lives near Warden Station, located at Warden and St. Clair.
Shortly after police responded to the child’s home they received a call from the TTC that they found a child wandering on the train tracks just west of Warden Station.
A TTC spokesperson said the boy was spotted at track level by a train traveling towards her.
The operator stopped the train and called traffic control to cut the power at track level.
The TTC said the boy was walking on planks over the electric rail, which had 600 volts running through it.
Once the power was cut, train crew retrieved the child and brought her aboard the train, the TTC said.
The train then returned to Warden Station where his mother and the police were waiting.
The child was not injured and is in good health, police said.
No charges have been filed, but police said safety advice was given to parents.
The TTC said the train was out of service at the time of the incident and there were no passengers on board.
It’s unclear how the boy got onto the tracks, and the TTC said the tracks are surrounded by fences in the area.
“Safety is our main concern and by reviewing the CCTV we are unable to determine how the child got to the level. We have checked the fence in the area and it appears safe but we will be doing a more intensive inspection again. This is a fact worrying, but thankfully very rare,” the TTC tweeted Thursday morning.
