Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Metro Vancouver during the first hot stretch of summer.
The notice issued Sunday is valid through Monday in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, North Shore, Coquitlam Maple Ridge, Surrey, Langley, Richmond and Delta.

The Fraser Valley is expected to meet the “heat warning criteria” with diurnal highs close to 34 ºC and an overnight low in adolescence.
The rest of the regions can expect daytime highs at 30 ºC and nighttime highs also among low and middle teens.
With a warmer climate, Environment Canada reminds residents that it increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Environment Canada said there will be some relief next week as temperatures are expected to return to normal.
Meanwhile, warmer temperatures also mean an increase in snowmelt, snow mantle instability and stream flows due to runoff.
Although heat is expected, water bodies are still cool for this time of year and can pose a risk of hypothermia.
