The discovery of a human leg has forced the closure of one of Australia’s main roads. And authorities believe the person may still be alive.
Authorities do not rule out that a person with his lower leg found on a major Australian road may still be alive.
Police confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the “lower leg of a dark-skinned human being” was found that morning on the Stuart Highway near Coolalinga, about 29 miles southeast of Darwin.
This was confirmed by a forensic pathologist after a motorist reported the surprising finding to the police at around 10.30am.
Detective Sergeant Major Paul Morrissey told the media that no other remains were found and that consultations were being made at hospitals and clinics.
“We believe it is in the last 24 hours, so we are asking for the camera footage from yesterday (Monday) afternoon,” he said. NT News.
The publication reported that more than 20 police cars were splashed along the Stuart Hwy for about 1 km at noon when the crime scene was established.

Said a passing motorist NT News they saw what appeared to be “most of a leg and a foot” Monday night.
“I thought for sure I didn’t just see part of a human leg and I didn’t believe myself until this morning, when I saw human remains found on the highway,” he said.
Stuart Hwy was locked between the lights of Howard Springs and Virginia Road on Tuesday morning.
In a social media update, police said southbound traffic would be diverted to Howard Springs Road or Lambrick Road and northbound traffic would be diverted to Virginia Road, or a U-turn to return to south by Stuart Hwy.
They urged motorists to avoid the area and take an alternative route if possible.
The only detail that has been given is that the emergency services are responding to an “incident”.
