A magnitude 2.9 earthquake has hit Brendale, north of Brisbane, Geoscience Australia reports.
The quake was detected at 1:25 p.m.
No reports of damage.
Geoscience Australia said more than 400 people reported hearing the quake, which was 10 kilometers deep.
It was initially reported that it was a magnitude 3 earthquake with its epicenter near Kilcoy in D’Aguilar National Park near Mount Byron.
People in the Somerset, Moreton Bay and Brisbane regions of south-east Queensland have reported feeling the quake shake.
“I was at home in Narangba, eating my lunch, and I heard that rumble, like a shock,” Sue told ABC Radio Brisbane.
“It was like a bang and then there was a rumble, and then the house shook.”
Andrew Samford told ABC Brisbane that he felt “a great tremor in the Samford Valley area” which “shook the house”.
Trembling was heard in parts of the CBD in Brisbane and office workers heard the commotion.
“My desk was shaking. The building was resonating. It was very small but still noticeable,” Cassie said from her Gardens Point office.
Kimberley, in the West End, said she also heard a rumble.
“The feel and sound was a bit like a jumbo jet flying over at low altitude,” he said.
