A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman and a girl, believed to be five years old, were found stabbed to death in Barnet, north London.
The victims were believed to be mother and daughter and were known to the detained man, Metropolitan Police said.
Officers were called to Brookside South at 1:37 p.m. today. Paramedics and an air ambulance were also dispatched.
The woman, 37, and the girl were found with stab wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
A 37-year-old man has also been arrested and the Met’s crime-fighting command is investigating.
Chief Superintendent Sara Leach described it as “an incredibly challenging scene” for the first responders.
“Specialist detectives are working to find out what happened and a man is under arrest,” he said.
“While they keep an open mind about what happened, I would like to reassure the neighbors that there is nothing to indicate, at this time, that anyone else has been involved in this incident.
“I urge anyone who has seen or heard anything unusual today or in recent days to come forward and talk to the police. Their information could be vital as the investigation progresses.”
