A man has died after being injured in a construction site of a wind farm in Shetland.
The 23-year-old was treated by emergency crews after the incident at the site operated by SSE Renewables in the Upper Kergord area on Sunday morning.
Ambulance and police services attended around 10.15am, but the man, a BAM Nuttall contractor, was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
The Health and Safety Executive will be informed once an initial investigation has been conducted.
A Scottish police spokesman said: “Consultations are underway to establish all the circumstances and the health and safety executive will be informed in due course.”
SSE is currently building the 450-megawatt Viking Energy wind farm to connect to the HVDC transmission link between Shetland and the Scottish mainland.
The company’s head of land projects, Derek Hastings, said: “We are devastated by today’s news and our thoughts and condolences are with the family, friends and colleagues of the young man who tragically died.
“We are working closely with BAM Nuttall and the relevant authorities to understand what happened.”
