A man “fires a gun” at the Post Office after staff refused to give up cash

Emergency services rushed to a Netherton post office following reports that a gun had been fired in an attempted robbery.

Merseyside police confirmed that around 3:15 p.m., officers received a report that a man entered the Park Lane post office and asked for cash at the cash register. When staff refused to give him cash, it was reported that he fired a pistol into the air, described by witnesses as an exit pistol.

Police said the man had been reported pedaling his bike. An information call has now been issued to keep the area cordoned off.

No injuries were reported and no cash was taken, as an investigation has been opened. Officers remain at the scene to conduct extensive CCTV, witness and forensic investigations.

Images taken by ECHO show a police cordon at the scene on Wednesday afternoon when officers entered and left the Post Office building. There are also currently roadblocks on Park Lane around the junction with Hereford Drive, as motorists are being asked to look for alternative routes.

The suspect is described as a white man, of slender complexion, with long blond hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black sweatshirt, black Berghaus pants and a black backpack.

Detective Superintendent Matt Smith said: “This is the second attempted robbery of a local business in the Bootle area this week and we understand how shocking it will be for everyone. I would like to reassure everyone that we will not tolerate it. our companies and staff.in the heart of our communities that are targeted in this way.

“We are working tirelessly to find those responsible for these incidents and bring them to justice. We are in the early stages of our investigation into the Park Avenue post office incident this afternoon and officers will remain at the area this afternoon while everyone is following lines of investigation to establish the full circumstances.

This is the second time this week that police have received reports of shootings following reports on Monday afternoon at the Halifax branch in Bootle Strand.
