Guildhall Street was cordoned off at the intersection with Cross Street around 6:30 a.m. after police were alerted by the Northwest Ambulance Service.
Paramedics attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene in what police say were “unexplained” circumstances.

A Lancashire police spokesman said: “The ambulance service called us shortly before 6.30am today (Wednesday 13th July) after a man’s body was found in a car park on the street “Guildhall of Preston. Unfortunately, the death was confirmed at the scene. He has been identified as a man in his 40s. The death is being treated as inexplicable at this time and investigations are ongoing.”
