It appears the shooting took place in the area where the victim was found and police are still at the scene, he added. Police know the victim, but in an interview, Kalanj refused to reveal why.

“Right now we believe the incident is being addressed, so we don’t believe there is an ongoing public safety issue,” he told Global News. “We won’t go into too much detail about the victim.”

Images of the scene filmed by Global News show several RCMP vehicles parked inside an enclosed area on Patterson Avenue and Hurst Street, and Willingdon Avenue and Hurst Street.

A civilian vehicle was surrounded by a yellow tarpaulin and surrounded by cones.

“It’s not clear if (the victim) was inside the vehicle or outside the vehicle, or if the vehicle is really related,” Kalanj said of the shooting. “It happened on the street.”
