A man swept into the river Nicola, without finding the body

A 42-year-old Douglas Lake man was dragged into the Nicola River after his car veered off the road and headed into Lake Nicola on Highway 5A, just north of the dam.

Daniel Nathan Meeker has been considered a missing person, but the BC RCMP says he “drowned during this incident.”

Search and rescue teams have conducted extensive searches with RCMP air support.

But according to police, rapid currents and high water levels have affected the searches.

“Where and when his body could come out is currently unpredictable due to high water levels,” the sergeant said. Chris Manseau, a BC RCMP officer.

Nicole Mcrae, her right-hand partner, is trying to locate her body, but searches have so far come out empty-handed.

“His body is being swept by the river somewhere in the water,” Mcrae said through tears. “My family and I need closure. We need to find him.”

BC RCMP said a vehicle was recovered but Meeker was not found.

Witnesses to the incident told Mcrae that Meeker was able to get out of the vehicle, but that the current swept him away quickly.

Mcrae described his missing partner as a very calm, kind, very kind man and, above all, cared for him and his family.

Meeker disappeared on June 20, 2022.
