A 20-year-old man remains in serious condition in hospital after being found unconscious on a path in the eastern suburbs of Sydney at night.

At around 1.30am today, police located the man on Bunnerong Road in Matraville with serious head and face injuries.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and the man was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital on suspicion of a jaw fracture.

Acting Inspector Michael Capon said police have reason to believe the incident is related to a pub raid.

“We have information that there was a confrontation before that evening between two men inside an authorized venue,” he said.

“And then there was a street clash on Bunnerong Road that morning.”

Capon said the man appeared to have been injured by punches and then crashed into the road.

“These one-off style blows are extremely dangerous for the victims involved,” he said.

Police have issued a description of a man who he believes can help with the inquiries.

He is described as Caucasian with a solid build and about 183 cm in height.

He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, white shorts, a dark hat and a right arm model.
