Hamilton police are investigating after a 27-year-old man was shot at a West Mountain townhouse complex Thursday night.
Police were called to 77 Purnell Dr., between Upper Paradise Road and Garth Street, south of Mohawk Road West, around 9:25 p.m. on July 21, said Const. Indy Bharaj.
A 27-year-old man was found with a significant gunshot wound and taken to hospital, where he remains in serious but non-life-threatening condition, he said.
The shooting took place in a grassy area of the complex, outside a unit, Bharaj said. Detectives believe it was a targeted incident.
There are no reports of anyone else being injured. No suspect information has been released.
Police held the scene at the housing complex overnight until Friday morning, when they resumed searching for evidence in daylight. Police have since cleared the scene.
This is believed to be at least the 21st shooting in Hamilton this year, including a homicide.
The latest shooting is being investigated by Division Three’s Criminal Investigations Section. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-546-3851.
