A massive fire surrounds the East Hastings Street building in Vancouver

A large fire ravaged the building shortly before 10 p.m.

A massive fire destroyed a building on Vancouver’s East Hastings Street Wednesday night and firefighters do not report any injuries.

Brad Hesse, deputy director of operations for Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services, says crews arrived at the scene at 1820 East Hastings Street shortly before 10 p.m. to find a fully involved fire.

More than 45 firefighters rushed to the large fire, which was seen all over the city and gave off a large column of smoke.

Hasse says this is a third alarm fire and the building collapsed on itself.

“There are no reports of injuries,” Hesse says.

A nearby building suffered some heat damage, but the involvement of the fire has been limited to the Value Village building.

“He [firefighters] We will definitely be tired, we will be here for a while “, he says.

The cause of the fire is unclear at this time.

Value Village shared the following statement with Glacier Media on Thursday:

We are deeply grateful to the firefighters and first responders and are relieved that there are no reports of injuries. Our immediate focus is to support the well-being of East Hastings Value Village team members. We offer employee support services for those who want to participate and look for both short- and long-term job opportunities for affected team members at other Value Village stores.

We are proud that Value Village has served the East Vancouver community from this location for over 40 years. We have offered our full support to the firefighters as they conduct their research into the causes of the fire.
