A nine-year-old girl is in hospital after being hit by a car while walking to school on the Gold Coast today.

She suffered head injuries following the incident in Pimpama shortly before 8.30am on Friday and was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital.
He is in stable condition.
Queensland Ambulance Service operations supervisor Jayney Shearman said several crews, including advanced and critical care paramedics, attended the scene.
“Upon our arrival, there was a nine-year-old female who had been struck at a moderate speed by a vehicle,” Shearman said.
“As a result of this he suffered a very nasty head injury.”
Ms Shearman said the girl was unconscious at one point but regained consciousness and improved significantly while with paramedics.
“It was a closed head injury, as a result of that incident, there was internal bleeding,” he said.
“She was very lucky, a very, very lucky girl.”

The girl was with a family member
Police say the girl was trying to cross a road at the intersection of Dixon Drive and Augusta Boulevard when she was hit.
Ms Shearman said the girl was with a family member and there were many witnesses to the incident.
“It was quite an emotional scene, as you’d expect with a young child involved,” he said.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
Police inquiries are ongoing and anyone who may have had dashcam footage of the area at the time is encouraged to contact officers.
