ST. JOHN’S, NL – One person drowned as a result of a tragedy at Rotary Sunshine Park in St. John’s. John’s
The first emergency responders were sent to an area just off Bennett’s Road with reports of a person in trouble at the popular swimming well around 5pm on Friday 1 July.
Upon arrival, teams had to go down a small trail area to where the incident took place.

Firefighters Corey Williams, Mike Newhook and Jimmy O’Toole, members of the St. Louis Regional Fire Department’s cold water rescue team. John’s, entered the water with his rescue boat from the Narwhal inflatable raft to begin the rescue attempt and search for the person.

The shift superintendent of the St. Louis Regional Fire Department John’s, Mike Hall, said at the time that he could not provide further information about the person and that the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary would provide updates.
As of 8 p.m., the search was in body recovery mode. Rovers Ground Search and Rescue and Sea-Force Diving Ltd. Divers they were helping in the search.
