A plane caught fire after landing at Miami International Airport

A plane carrying 126 people caught fire after landing at Miami International Airport on Tuesday.

Red Air Flight 203 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, had landed around 5:30 p.m. .

The MD-82 plane was carrying 126 people, and three were taken to hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

The plane caught fire but was quickly extinguished, authorities said.

Images of the scene showed the plane with its belly sprinkled with foam by fire trucks. Photos and videos posted on social media showed passengers walking nearby on the runway.

The airport was experiencing some flight delays on Tuesday evening, airport officials said in a tweet, adding that passengers had to check details with the airlines. The tweet added that the collapse of the front landing gear in the nose of the plane appeared to be the cause of the fire.

Passengers were being transported from the plane to the terminal.

No other information was known immediately.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced that a team would arrive at the airport on Wednesday to investigate the fire.
