The crash between a BC Transit bus and a Purolator bucket van took place around 4:30 p.m. on June 30th.

An 18-year-old Quebec student is not expected to survive after being seriously injured in a collision between the bus she was on and a courier van.

An 18-year-old passenger died after the BC Transit bus she was riding in was swept away by a courier van on Highway 3A near Castlegar.

The accident between the bus and a Purolator bucket van happened around 4:30 p.m., June 30.

There were 16 students coming from Quebec on the bus at the time. The 18-year-old girl was sitting next to the window where the van crashed and she was seriously injured.

“After his classmates tried first aid, the injured student was taken to Trail Regional Hospital and then to Kelowna General Hospital …,” the Insp. of the RCMP. Chad Badry in a statement.

Assistance to RCMP victims and Selkirk College counselors are helping the students involved.

The driver of the van remained at the scene.

Police say investigators are trying to find out why the driver of the van crossed the center line and are looking for information or video footage of several drivers behind the van. The bus video shows three vehicles in particular: a blue two-door coupe, a silver SUV, and an older gray Nissan Pathfinder.

British Columbia Prime Minister John Horgan said his government was contacting the Quebec government to offer help.
