New South Wales police say the parents of a teenager were at home when their son was stabbed to death early this morning.
Key points:
- The events took place at the boy’s home while his parents were there
- It is the second stabbing death of a teenager at Casino in the space of a month
- Police believe the incident was targeted and say no arrests have been made or weapons have been found
An extensive crime scene has been set up at the McDougall St family home in Casino, in the north of the state.
Paramedics were called to the home shortly after 1 a.m., but the 17-year-old died at the scene.
Richmond Police District Commander Superintendent Scott Tanner said the boy’s parents were at home when the attack happened.
“They’re pretty anxious,” he said.
“Losing a child under any circumstances is tragic enough.”

Superintendent Tanner said no arrests have been made or weapons recovered in what police believe is a targeted attack.
The incident comes after the death of another 17-year-old, who was stabbed during a fight at the Casino last month.
Police do not rule out a relationship between the two facts.
“While the investigation is fairly early, we are analyzing all lines of investigation,” Superintendent Tanner said.
Peter Geraghty, a longtime resident at the Casino who lives near the crime scene, says the city has been shaken by recent fatalities.
“Anything can happen here,” he said.
“Young people carrying knives, it’s very, very dangerous.”
Additional agents from the region and Sydney homicide detectives have been sent to aid investigations.
