Chief Inspector Partington said: “This is a heartbreaking incident that has seen a child tragically lose his life and my thoughts go out to his family and loved ones who will be completely devastated by today’s events.

“Although his family called an ambulance as he drove him to the hospital as fast as they could, the boy unfortunately could not be saved after the best efforts of the paramedics; I can’t imagine how distressing he is. be that for those involved.

“We are working to ensure that a full investigation is carried out and the farmland where we understand this incident occurred remains cordoned off to allow our HSE researchers and partners to conduct thorough research to establish exactly what happened here. “.
