A woman died on a hike at Oregon’s popular Multnomah Falls after falling 100 feet, officials said.
First responders were dispatched to the Multnomah Falls-Larch Mountain Trail at 1:15 p.m. Friday to treat a woman suffering from life-threatening injuries. After walking more than a mile, firefighters from the Corbett Fire District found the woman near Wiesendanger Falls; Good Samaritans were administering CPR, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, the woman had been walking with friends when she slipped and fell about 100 feet. He suffered a fatal head injury.
Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is the “most visited natural recreation site in the Pacific Northwest,” according to the US Forest Service, with more than 2 million visitors each year. Due to its popularity, timed permits are required from May 24 to September 5 to enter the grounds.
The woman’s identity is being withheld pending family notification.
