According to police, the incident happened around 3:50 p.m. on 3 SW Street near 7th Avenue SW.
A black Kia Soul operated by a 26-year-old man who had been stopped, “suddenly overturned,” according to police. The vehicle, which had been facing south, turned north as it crossed the road. When she crossed the road, a 24-year-old woman who had been in the passenger seat fell and was hit by a Kia, which then crashed into a parked vehicle.
Police say spectators tried to free the woman, who ended up trapped under the Kia, but died shortly after being taken to hospital.
The driver of the Kia was also taken to hospital after being found unconscious at the scene. Police say he is still in serious condition.
In a statement, police said speed and alcohol were not considered factors in the incident, but were investigating a possible drug deficiency.
