A wrong-way driver was killed in an early morning crash on the 400 Freeway

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. between Vasey Road and Highway 12; OPP say the driver of the second vehicle suffered non-life threatening injuries

A wrong-way driver crashed into a truck pulling a trailer and died in a serious two-vehicle crash on Highway 400 early this morning.

Police say a southbound pickup truck and trailer were struck by a northbound car in the southbound lanes of the busy highway.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver of the pickup truck was taken to an area hospital by paramedics for treatment of non-life threatening injuries from the crash.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on Highway 400 between Vasey Road and Highway 12 in Tay Township.

South Georgian Bay OPP officers responded to the incident along with Tay Township Fire and Simcoe County Paramedics.

The 400 Freeway was closed for several hours before reopening around 5:45 this morning. The southbound lanes, however, remain closed; Police expect them to reopen by 11:30 a.m

The investigation into the causes of the accident is being carried out by traffic technical investigators from the Central Region of the OPP. Check Twitter @OPP_COMM_CR for road closure updates.
