Sony usually follows its PlayStation consoles with a slim version a few years later, but the time has not yet come for the PS5. While we all expect a slimmer PS5 to fit better in tight spaces, a youtuber named DIY Perks has already created one. It disassembled a standard PlayStation 5 and replaced everything that needed to be replaced to get rid of the console’s mass. He replaced components with similar parts and his own homemade creations, including the rather bulky case of the console, to create a device that is only 1.9 inches thick.
However, putting the power supply and cooling system of the current device with the rest of the console components would not give a “thin” version of the PS5. So what Perks did was build his own water cooling system and put the power supply in a long, thin outer shell that can be placed behind the TV, where it will not be noticed. Although it encountered some issues that took some time to resolve, in the end it was able to make the console work. Its cooling system was even more efficient than the standard PS5, depending on the temperatures it took when tested with Horizon Forbidden West.
Unfortunately, the Perks PS5 Slim is unique and not easy to replicate. You can see their process in the video below if you need ideas or just want to be amazed.
