ABC has introduced new executive producers for three of its flagship television news programs.
Matthew Carney will replace long-time executive producer Sally Neighbor at Four Corners, Neighbor MP Morag Ramsay will replace Carney as executive producer of Foreign Correspondent, and Joel Tozer, producer of Nine’s 60 Minutes, has been hired for the role of executive producer at 7:30 p.m. .
Justin Stevens, director of news, analysis and research, described the roles as three of the most important in Australian journalism.
Stevens, the former 7.30 executive producer who replaced Gaven Morris as head of ABC news in March, said he was “delighted” to be able to nominate the trio for these vital roles.
“ABC News is committed to providing the best and most courageous investigative journalism and public interest reporting in the country on behalf of all Australians and we look forward to seeing what Matthew, Joel and Morag do by leading these exceptionally talented teams,” he said. in a statement. .
The ABC said in a statement that Carney joined the station in 1995. He has previously been a reporter for Four Corners, head of the North Asia office and head of the China office.
Ramsay joined ABC in 1996, working for ABC Radio Sydney, and went on to work for Lateline and Four Corners, where she has been supervising the production company since 2015.
Both Carney and Ramsay have won three Walkley Awards.
Tozer, who is also a Walkley winner, has worked on reportage and production roles for ABC, SBS and Nine.
Stevens has previously devoted 60 minutes to hiring, having hired producer Grace Tobin in 2019 as a reporter for 7.30am. He is now a journalist at Four Corners.
She is now filling many of the key vacancies caused by a number of retirements and promotions, with Sarah Ferguson appointed to replace Leigh Sales as 7.30am presenter last month.
