The spectacular musical extravaganza was kicked off in style by British pop group Queen at 8pm on Saturday evening. It was attended by a number of members of the royal family, including Princes Charles and Camilla, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with their two children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Eagle-eyed spectators quickly realized that two of the guests at the Royal Box were none other than the Scottish Prime Minister and her husband, Peter Murrell.
His presence provoked a reaction on social media among Royal supporters and unionists.
One wrote: “Spy Nicola Sturgeon in the Royal Box at the Platty Joobs Concert.
“The sight of millions of happy people waving Union Jacks must have made her uncomfortable. It made my day.”
While another was excited: “So Nicola Sturgeon and Peter Murrell are attending the Platinum Jubilee concert and are sitting in the Royal Box behind Princess Anne.
“Both are absolutely shameless.”
A third joked, “We hope someone catches him on camera waving his union flag.”
And a fourth wrote: “Why did @NicolaSturgeon accept the invitations to the Queens Jubilee but deny schoolchildren in Scotland the book celebrating his 70th year on the throne?
“Is it because it’s a waste of opportunistic and hypocritical space?”
The British government has published a book coinciding with the Platinum Jubilee, which explains how the four nations came together as the United Kingdom.
The book was to be automatically sent to all state elementary schools before the Jubilee weekend.
However, both the Scottish and Welsh authorities said their schools would only receive books if specifically requested.

The 96-year-old monarch did not attend the pop concert in front of Buckingham Palace.
