Adam Hadwin makes a wild hole in one at the Memorial Tournament

The 2,863th time is the charm.

That’s how long it took Adam Hadwin to make the first hole in one in the PGA TOUR competition. He used a 194-yard 7-yard iron to reach the 16th hole of the second round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. Then he went crazy right away.

“I think I stayed a second when he came in,” said Hadwin, who met with a 68 to reach the equality of the tournament, well within the cutting line. “It simply came to our notice then.

“And to see him go over his lips and fall,” he added, “You just have pure joy as a reaction there. Once again, I was left dark. I’m not sure exactly what happened.”

Jessica Hadwin, his wife, tweeted that she was the most excited she had ever seen her husband.

Hadwin threw his club into the air and jumped as the crowd erupted.

He said he had made a hole in one in a youth tournament when he was maybe 15 years old. He also reached the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale, though not during the WM Phoenix Open, so no one saw him.

This was a no-brainer, as the roars resounded in the village of Muirfield. The shot was playing under the wind, he said, and aimed a little to the left, planning for the ball to be cut.

“And it came out perfect,” he said. “It cut well. But, you know, I’ve been playing this game long enough, I’ve hit enough perfect golf shots that don’t end up getting close to a hole in one, so there’s a lot of luck with that from where It lands on the green and all that.

“I hit the exact shot I wanted in this case,” Hadwin continued. “And it happened to find the right line on the green. Pretty exciting.”
