Just over a month after Sony reportedly blocked his studies Since the issuance of public statements about abortion, several PlayStation Studios companies have shared favorable feelings about the election after the billing of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Insomnia (opens new tab) was the first PlayStation studio to post a statement on Twitter, simply noting that “reproductive freedom and bodily autonomy are human rights.” Bend Studio (opens in a new tab), Media Molecule (opens in a new tab), Sucker Punch (opens in a new tab) and Guerrilla (opens in a new tab) were right behind with identical word and Tangled dog (opens in a new tab) posted a longer but tonally similar statement shortly after.
Branch studies such as Sony San Diego (opens in a new tab) and God of War studio Sony Santa Monica (opens in a new tab) also shared surprisingly similar messages, suggesting that at least the base wording is shared on PlayStation and potentially Sony as a whole. Even PlayStation London (opens in a new tab) —you guessed it, not a U.S.-based branch — reflected the statement, which supports the theory that was wiped out internally.
Naughty Dog co-chair Neil Druckmann also posted a receipt – which was shared by the studio’s main Twitter account – for a $ 10,000 donation to NARAL Pro-Choice Americathanking PlayStation for equaling 50% of it for $ 5,000.
I support NARAL in accessing reproductive rights and bodily autonomy. If you have the means, please join me as a volunteer or donation. And thanks to PlayStation for the generous game. pic.twitter.com/KJT3EmpmAO24 June 2022

This echoes the circumstances of a previous donation from Insomniac Games, which sent $ 50,000 to nonprofit WRRAP for abortions following the previously leaked Supreme Court opinion that predicted today’s decision.
At the time, The Washington Post (opens in a new tab) reported that Sony had agreed to match the Insomniac donation and was also advancing the infrastructure for a company support system that would cover the travel expenses of people seeking health care . According to internal notes, Sony has now as reported duplicated this coverage.
The messages from the PlayStation studios are especially noteworthy given Sony’s alleged response to the leaked opinion mentioned above. Despite matching Insomniac’s donation behind the scenes, Sony prevented this and other PlayStation studios from making public statements about abortion, with a leaked email from PlayStation president Jim Ryan urging employees to “respect differences of opinion “on the subject. Along with more matched donations, today’s unified public statements suggest that Sony and / or PlayStation have changed tone.
Bungie, it will be soon acquired by Sony for about $ 3.6 billionwill remain technically independent of PlayStation Studios however has also pledged to support employees and their family members if they need to travel to seek care, as states restrict or suppress access to abortion.
