Aggressive coyotes quickly close Fish Creek Provincial Park section in southeast Calgary

A section of Fish Creek Provincial Park in southeastern Calgary has been closed to the public following reports of aggressive coyotes attacking a person and a dog.

The closure extends from Parkside Green to Parkvista Crescent SE to the east bank of Fish Creek itself, according to a notice on the Alberta Parks website.

All roads and surrounding land in the affected area are closed to park users until further notice.

The province says there are several ways for people to avoid and minimize conflicts with coyotes.

It is important to never feed animals, be strong and aggressive if you come across one, clean up the rubbish and excrement from your garden animals and keep pets or children under close supervision.

“If you come across a coyote, make the experience unpleasant for the animal. Make it feel unwanted in your neighborhood,” Alberta Parks said.
